Healthy Snacks at Walmart: 10 Label-Checked Picks for 2026

The healthy snacks at Walmart worth a spot in your cart are short-ingredient foods with real protein or fiber and little or no added sugar. Think Great Value Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt, Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame, Blue Diamond almonds and Triscuit Original. We picked all 10 by reading brand pages and USDA FoodData Central labels on October 13, 2026. There was no hands-on testing and no sponsorship, and we list no prices, since prices and stock vary by store. For the rest of your list, our guide to the best healthy foods at Walmart covers groceries beyond the snack aisle.

How we picked these Walmart snacks
Every pick was judged on four label checks: little or no added sugar, moderate sodium, protein or fiber that earns its calories, and a short ingredient list without synthetic dyes. All 10 clear the sugar and dye checks; the exceptions on the other two (Chomps on sodium, popcorn and seaweed on protein and fiber) are explained below and on their cards. Snacks deserve that scrutiny because they are an everyday habit.
Each rule ties back to a published benchmark or survey:
- Added sugar at 0 g, or close. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2025-2030 (DGA) recommend no added sugars and cap a whole meal at 10 g. FDA "healthy" limits run from 1 g for nuts to 5 g for grain foods per serving.
- Sodium at or under 230 mg per serving, the ceiling in the same FDA rule. One pick goes over, and its card says so.
- Protein or fiber that earns its calories. In the IFIC 2025 survey, 70% of adults said they try to eat protein and 64% fiber. Popcorn and seaweed earn a pass with volume or very few calories.
- No certified dyes, few ingredients. The Dietary Guidelines advise limiting petroleum-based dyes, artificial flavors and preservatives. Every pick has seven ingredients or fewer and no FD&C dyes such as Red 40.
Here is how those checks look on a real label.
Protein-forward healthy snacks at Walmart
Great Value Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt and Seapoint Farms edamame lead this group on protein, and all six skip added sugar. Our roundup of high-protein snacks has more ideas beyond Walmart.
Great Value Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt
Best private-label pick
- Protein
- 15 g
- Fiber
- 0 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- About 50 mg
Walmart's own plain Greek yogurt packs 15 g of protein into one cup, and its 6 g of sugar is natural lactose, not added. The only ingredient is cultured nonfat milk.
Watch out: Flavored cups can add sugar, so check that the lid says Plain.
Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame, Sea Salt
Best protein plus fiber
- Protein
- 14 g
- Fiber
- 6 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 140 mg
Just soybeans and sea salt deliver the best protein-plus-fiber combination on this list. The shelf-stable bag fits a desk drawer.
Watch out: Walmart's 100-calorie packs hold 22.5 g, less than the 30 g label serving.
Chomps Original Beef Stick
Best savory grab-and-go
- Protein
- 10 g
- Fiber
- 0 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 380 mg
This 100-calorie grass-fed beef stick gives you 10 g of protein and slips into a purse or gym bag. Its seven ingredients start with beef and water.
Watch out: Its 380 mg of sodium tops the FDA's 230 mg "healthy" benchmark, so go easy on salt later.
Blue Diamond Whole Natural Almonds
Best one-ingredient snack
- Protein
- 6 g
- Fiber
- 3 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 0 mg
The ingredient list is one word: almonds. Under the FDA's updated "healthy" rule, plain nuts with nothing added qualify automatically.
Watch out: At 160 calories an ounce, pre-portion handfuls from a big bag.
Mini Babybel Original
Best lunchbox cheese
- Protein
- 4 g
- Fiber
- 0 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 150 mg
Each wax-wrapped round has 70 calories and 4 g of protein, and it pairs well with fruit. The only ingredients are cultured milk, salt and enzymes.
Watch out: Its 3.5 g of saturated fat tops the FDA's 2 g "healthy" limit for dairy, so stick to one.
Justin's Classic Peanut Butter Squeeze Pack
Best pairing with fruit
- Protein
- 7 g
- Fiber
- 1 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 25 mg
A 1.15 oz pack turns an apple or banana into a snack with 7 g of protein, already portioned. The ingredients are dry roasted peanuts and palm oil.
Watch out: It has 210 calories and 3.5 g of saturated fat, so one pack per snack is plenty.
Crunchy and sweet healthy snacks at Walmart
For crunch, choose a whole-grain cracker, plain popcorn or roasted seaweed; for something sweet, a fruit-only bar. All four are lower in protein, so pair them with a pick from above.
Triscuit Original
Best whole-grain cracker
- Protein
- 3 g
- Fiber
- 3 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 170 mg
Whole grain wheat leads a three-ingredient list, and six crackers bring 3 g of fiber for 120 calories. Our guide to the healthiest crackers compares more boxes.
Watch out: Flavored Triscuits can have longer ingredient lists, so recheck the label.
SkinnyPop Original Popcorn
Best for volume
- Protein
- 2 g
- Fiber
- 2 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 130 mg
A serving is a generous 3 cups for 150 calories, from just popcorn, sunflower oil and salt. That volume makes it easy to share at movie night.
Watch out: Protein is low, so add a cheese round or a few almonds.
gimMe Organic Roasted Seaweed, Sea Salt
Best low-calorie crunch
- Protein
- 1 g
- Fiber
- 1 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 40 mg
At 30 calories a pack, these crisp sheets answer a salty craving for very little. The list is organic seaweed, organic sunflower oil and sea salt.
Watch out: One 5 g pack is light, so treat it as an add-on.
That's it. Apple + Mango Fruit Bar
Best sweet swap
- Protein
- 0 g
- Fiber
- 3 g
- Added sugar
- 0 g
- Sodium
- 25 mg
Apples and mangoes are the only ingredients, so the bar shows 0 g added sugar but 23 g of total sugar from the fruit. Added sugar counts sugars and syrups put in during processing; total sugar also includes the fruit's own, as our explainer on added sugar vs total sugar shows.
Watch out: Fruit sugar still counts, so pair the bar with almonds or yogurt.

Walmart snacks that look healthy but are not the best pick
The snacks to skip pair a health halo with a sugar or starch problem: granola bars, yogurt-covered raisins, veggie straws and fruit snacks.
Granola bars
One 2-bar pouch of Nature Valley Oats 'n Honey Crunchy has 11 g of added sugar, and sugar is the second ingredient. That alone exceeds the 10 g the Dietary Guidelines allow for a whole meal.
Yogurt-covered raisins
One 28 g box of Sun-Maid Vanilla Yogurt Raisins has 18 g of total sugars, from the raisins plus a coating that starts with sugar and palm kernel oil, and 4 g of saturated fat. The brand page still uses an older label without an added-sugar line, so you cannot see how much of that sugar is added.
Veggie straws
Many veggie straws lead with potato starch and potato flour, with vegetables added as powders. Fiber and protein are low, so check the bag and treat them like chips.
Fruit snacks
Welch's Mixed Fruit Fruit Snacks have 8 g of added sugar per 0.8 oz pouch, with corn syrup and sugar right after fruit puree. Their colors come from natural sources, and since February 2026 the FDA lets foods without certified dyes claim "no artificial colors". That claim says nothing about sugar. For lunchbox swaps, see healthy snacks for kids.
Look for
- 0 g added sugar, or a few grams at most
- A few grams of protein or fiber
- Sodium at or under the FDA's 230 mg benchmark
- No Red 40, Yellow 5 or other certified dyes
Skip
- Sugar or corn syrup in the first three ingredients
- "Veggie" snacks built on potato starch
- Sugary coatings made with palm kernel oil
- "No artificial colors" read as "low sugar"
What Walmart's dye pledge means for Great Value snacks
Most Walmart private-brand products are already free of synthetic dyes, but the cleanup is not finished, so keep reading the label. In October 2025, Walmart said about 90% of its private-brand products already had no synthetic dyes. Its pledge is to remove 11 dyes and 30 other ingredients from all its US private-brand food, including Great Value, by January 2027.
Walmart's list includes Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and Blue 1, dyes the FDA asked industry to phase out voluntarily by the end of 2026. Red No. 3 is on a firmer clock: the FDA revoked its authorization, and food makers must reformulate by January 15, 2027, as our Red Dye 3 ban explainer details.
What "In progress" means: The FDA's pledge tracker lists Walmart's private brands as "In progress" toward January 2027 (as of September 15, 2026), so some Great Value items on shelves may still contain a certified dye. Our list of healthy snacks without artificial dyes has more options.
Build a healthy Walmart snack cart in 5 steps
To find clean snacks at Walmart beyond this list, pair protein with fiber, match the serving to the pack, then check added sugar, sodium and dyes. The same checks shape our guide to healthy snacks at Costco.
- Pair protein with fiber
Combine the two, like Triscuit with a Babybel or an apple with a Justin's pack.
- Check the serving size against the pack
Label numbers are per serving, and your pack may hold more or less.
- Keep added sugar between 0 and 5 g
That matches the FDA's "healthy" limit for grain foods; dairy and nut limits are even lower.
- Aim for sodium near 230 mg or less
That is the FDA "healthy" ceiling per serving. A saltier snack fits if your day stays under the 2,300 mg daily limit for ages 14 and up.
- Scan the ingredients for certified dyes
Look for Red 40, Yellow 5 or Blue 1. Until Walmart's January 2027 deadline, the label is the only sure check on a Great Value item.
Frequently asked questions
What is the healthiest Walmart private-label snack?
On this list, it is Great Value Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt: 15 g of protein, 0 g added sugar and one ingredient per 5.3 oz cup, according to its USDA FoodData Central label. It is the only Great Value item on this list, so give Great Value string cheese or bettergoods plain nuts the same four label checks before they go in your cart.
Are Great Value snacks dye-free yet?
Not all yet. Walmart said about 90% of its private-brand products had no synthetic dyes in October 2025, and the FDA's tracker still shows the removal as in progress toward January 2027. Until then, finding Walmart snacks with no artificial dyes means checking the ingredient list.
Is the sugar in fruit-only bars a problem?
Not on its own. Sugar that comes naturally from fruit does not count as added sugar, which is why That's it. Apple + Mango shows 0 g added sugar next to 23 g of total sugar. It still counts toward your total sugar for the day, so pair the bar with protein like almonds or yogurt.
The bottom line
The healthy snacks at Walmart that deserve a regular spot are the simple ones: plain Greek yogurt and dry roasted edamame for protein, almonds and Triscuit for fiber, and popcorn or seaweed when you want crunch. Every pick here skips added sugar, and only the beef stick runs high on sodium. Before anything new goes in the cart, flip the package and check four lines: added sugar, sodium, protein or fiber, and the ingredients.
